Piers Morgan talks royal wedding

Los Angeles - British people are excited about Prince William's wedding because they want him to be happy after the death of his mother Diana, according to Piers Morgan.

The talk show host, who was discussing the prince's upcoming nuptials to Kate Middleton with TV and music mogul Simon Cowell on his CNN show Piers Morgan Tonight, said the nation is looking forward to the big day on April 29 because it remembers the pain of William and his brother Prince Harry at their mother Diana's funeral in 1997.

He said: "I've met William a few times. And he's a real strong character. Think what they've been through, those boys. I mean, you and I remember Diana's funeral, and watching these terrible scenes. And I think one of the reasons this royal wedding is getting so much attention and excitement is it's the first joyous royal occasion since Diana died."

Simon agreed, saying: "I can remember those awful shots of the two of them, you know, on the funeral. And now - you're quite right. Now you're seeing him getting married. And he seems like a really, really nice guy. She's cute."

'Top guy'

Simon, who did not receive an invite to the wedding, also said although he has never met William he has spent time with Harry and described him as a "top guy".

He said: "I don't know William. But I've met Harry. And I've got to tell you, just top, top guy. Really, really funny, like a normal bloke, great sense of humour. I really, really was impressed with Harry."

Long live the queen

The X Factor boss also revealed that he is in favour of having a monarchy in Britain because he believes the royal family are "good people".

He said: "Certainly for our own country I do, because I think it - it's just something which - which makes us unique. You know, I mean, they - they are good people.

"They're not chopping heads off any more or stuff like that. Their values are good. They seem like very, very nice people. And it makes us different - special."
