Cape Town – All of M-Net's TV channels on MultiChoice's DStv platform went dark on Wednesday morning when the pay-TV broadcaster suffered an unexpected power failure at its Randburg complex, yanking M-Net channels off the air.
M-Net’s channels – its range of movie and series channels and even its premium M-Net high definition general entertainment channel – abruptly disappeared after their connections were lost just after 10:00 on Wednesday morning due to a power failure at M-Net's Randburg headquarters. It caused a signal disruption for 15 minutes before the power and the channels were restored.
Technicians immediately jumped to try and restore the power.
It's not yet clear why the power failure occurred and it is current under urgent investigation; sources tell Channel24 the sudden power failure affected several sections of M-Net's Randburg complex from just after 10:00.
According to insiders the M-Net channel (DStv 101) was first to be back on air after six minutes when power was restored. The M-Net Series channels such as M-Net Series Showcase, M-Net Series Reality and M-Net Series Zone were restored next after about 15 minutes of darkness, and then the M-Net Movies subset of channels followed.
"Everything is restored. All the channels are back on the air," an M-Net spokesperson told Channel24.
"Technicians immediately worked on restoring the magic. The M-Net channels apologise for any inconvenience caused."
