Rachel Khoo talks TV, food and travelling

Johannesburg – TV cook Rachel Khoo is back with a brand new series.

In her new show Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook: Cosmopolitan Cook she takes viewers on a culinary adventure from Istanbul, to Naples, to Barcelona.

After her travels she returns to London to try out new recipes inspired by her travels.

Rachel recently visited South Africa and we had the opportunity to taste some of her delicious food and chat to her about her new series.

She dished about her favourite food, her new show and her love for cooking.

What are you most excited about the new series?
I am most excited about the viewers discovering all the new places with me.

Did you always want to be a chef?
I always loved cooking since I was young; there was always lots of cooking at home.  After I graduated I worked in PR for a while and then I decided to pack up and head to Paris and enrolled in culinary school. It was very hard work; I had to start at the bottom.

How did you get into TV?
For the first series I approached TV production companies I thought it was a good idea and the timing was right. This time around the BBC approached me.

It must be difficult coming up with new recipes all the time. Where do you find your inspiration?
Through my travels, tasting new things and trying new things. I try to find inspiration beyond just food.

What do you cook for yourself?
I’m a flexitarian. I prefer good quality food I eat lots of fruit and vegetables and I absolutely love cheese.

What’s your favourite dessert?
That's a difficult one! But a fresh fruit salad always works well. It’s a simple pleasure.
