Royalty Soapie Awards to air on SABC1

Johannesburg - The Royalty Soapie Awards, which took place at the Durban International Convention Centre on Saturday 8 March, will be broadcast on SABC1 on Thursday, 17 April at 22:00.

Television soap opera newbie, Isibaya, swept the boards at the glittering ceremony and scooped 10 of the 18 categories, leaving the rest of the spoils to be shared amongst industry heavyweights and top audience rated shows.

Isibaya, produced by The Bomb Shelter, and broadcast on Mzansi Magic, channel 161 on DStv scooped all the major awards on the night including Outstanding Soapie, Outstanding Lead Actor (Siyabonga Twala) and Outstanding Lead Actress (Thembi Nyandeni).

Shaleen Surtie-Richards was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30 year contribution to the industry and her memorable roles on soapies such as Egoli, Generations and 7de Laan.

Royalty Soapie Awards project director Sindile Xulu says, "As a team we are thrilled to have the inaugural awards broadcast made accessible to the widest possible audience".

Soapie fans will get to see South Africa’s soap stars, industry heavyweights, celebrities and socialites in a 72-minute special that will cover all the action from the red carpet to the awards presentation.
