Cape Town – SABC chairperson Ellen Zandile Tshabalala says SABC workers are so committed and love the SABC so much that they work there for 24 hours per day.
She also said a lot of people don’t have matric but are committed, alluding to the SABC’s famously matricless acting chief operating officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who has become a highly controversial figure at the public broadcaster.
"At SABC there's lot of talk about matric," Tshabalala told parliament's portfolio committee for communications on Friday. "There's lots of people who don't have matric”.
“But SABC has never switched off a single day. SABC is working because people are commited. They come there to work. They actually work 24 hours. People are working over hours for the love of SABC".
Tshabalala told parliament that there's no reason to fire Motsoeneng despite the Public Protector’s scathing report released about him earlier this year in which he admitted in a recorded interview to having lied about his qualifications and being directly implicated in maladministration at the SABC.
