Cape Town – SABC1 will be going gay on Monday at 22:00 with the broadcast of the third episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day which will feature an unsensored gay sex scene.

SABC1 confirmed to Channel24 that the episode airing on Monday will be shown unedited and unsensored.

The episode contains a racy gay sex scene between Captain Jack Harkness (played by John Barrowman) and a barman he picks up in a casual encounter.

On Friday SABC1 responded to media enquiries made last week, saying that tonight's episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day will not be edited.

Doctor Who spin-off

"Torchwood is not edited and the channel will transmit as is, with a consumer warning ranging from 13 PG V to 16 L," said SABC1.

Torchwood: Miracle Day is a science-fiction drama series co-produced by the BBC and the Starz channel in the US, a cable channel similar to Showtime and HBO known for their racier TV content including strong language, sex, nudity and violence.

Torchwood is a spin-off of the more child-friendly TV series Doctor Who, which was revived in 2005 by Welsh producer Russell T Davies for the BBC, and stars Barrowman as an immortal time traveller.

While Monday night's sex scene was shown unedited on Starz in the since less stringent rules apply, the BBC edited the sex scene when it was shown on public television in Britain.

Torchwood: Miracle Day airs on SABC1 on Mondays at 22:00.
