SABC1 to air uncensored gay sex scene

2012-06-11 15:36
Cape Town – SABC1 will be going gay on Monday at 22:00 with the broadcast of the third episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day which will feature an unsensored gay sex scene.

SABC1 confirmed to Channel24 that the episode airing on Monday will be shown unedited and unsensored.

The episode contains a racy gay sex scene between Captain Jack Harkness (played by John Barrowman) and a barman he picks up in a casual encounter.

On Friday SABC1 responded to media enquiries made last week, saying that tonight's episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day will not be edited.

Doctor Who spin-off

"Torchwood is not edited and the channel will transmit as is, with a consumer warning ranging from 13 PG V to 16 L," said SABC1.

Torchwood: Miracle Day is a science-fiction drama series co-produced by the BBC and the Starz channel in the US, a cable channel similar to Showtime and HBO known for their racier TV content including strong language, sex, nudity and violence.

Torchwood is a spin-off of the more child-friendly TV series Doctor Who, which was revived in 2005 by Welsh producer Russell T Davies for the BBC, and stars Barrowman as an immortal time traveller.

While Monday night's sex scene was shown unedited on Starz in the since less stringent rules apply, the BBC edited the sex scene when it was shown on public television in Britain.

Torchwood: Miracle Day airs on SABC1 on Mondays at 22:00.

Ah it's good to see that they aren't censoring what happens all around the world, every minute of every day. Gay people see heterosexual sex almost all the time (The Tudors, Game of Thrones...) People need to see that gay sex is just sex. It is not perverted, it is not a sin, it is not abnormal, otherwise there wouldn't be 1500 animal species shown to exhibit homosexuality. Gay is the way. Build a bridge and get over it.

150+ years ago these religious nutters were ranting on to protect slavery. Up till into the 1990's they ranted on against people with dark skins and used the bible to justify apartheid. They lost those battles. And since religion always attempts to separate the sheep form the rest of society, to make the sheep feel superior, they need bogeymen. Gays are in. When they eventually lose this battle they will come after the non-believers again.

You two guys sound close, really close. Wesley you are quite aggressive with all things gay on these forums. Are you homosexual?

I am still wondering about the christian preoccupation with gay sex. Really. I mean, if a normal person doesn't like something, they usually just ignore it. Making such an issue of something basically is an admission of an unhealthy obsession.

@Thando - is heterosexual ass-pumping also a sin, abnormal, queer (yawn)

kaizer thats weird coz as far as im concern the disease is also known in countries where homosexuality is even aloud and please tell me how common is this disease coz doctors in europe and america seems to disagree with your finding. and you tell me you find this only in homosexuals??? wrong again. soapies on tv promote Promiscuity but yet i do not see you telling the heterosexual people what diseases they could get from that...let me guess you have nothing to say???

I saw this episode a while back. It's no secret Captain Jack Harkness is gay, and the scene really isn't such a big deal. I'm suprised News24 has even done a story on it. To Kaizer and Charles Dumbwin, please take your hateful and derogatory attitudes elsewhere. Shame on you.

As far as I'm concerned, it was a move for the better. A step in the right direction for equality. Good on you, SABC 1!

Good on you, Jarryd La Kay :)

Yeah, calvinistic broadcasting thankfully ended in 1994.

Love gays but don't wanna see them have sex or anyone else for that matter. Sex scenes do nothing for the story line *JMO*

I think here I agree with you. No need to stoke a fire that's already causing harm in this society.

  • greeff.kotze - 2012-06-11 23:12

Filthy liars! They probably didn't even know what the original episode looked like!

  • joe.farmer.92775 - 2012-06-12 13:45

after airing every ANCYL event i am not sure how this is different??

  • janalbert.vandenberg - 2012-06-14 10:52

I fear in this move the SABC will only contribute further in the hectic polarisation that already exists in this country. If people murder gay folk out of pure hatred then clearly this country is *not* ready for shows of this nature. No-one worries if it involves women, or a mild grumble is to be heard; but gay men is still entirely taboo here. Why add fuel to a fire that is already enough to consume Joe Public?

  • Philip - 2012-07-08 12:29

Instead of me lashing out as i normally do, gay people, please tell me, what do i tell my 2 SONS when they see 2 men kissing, that its normal!???
