SABC1's big Bold blunder

Cape Town – The SABC's latest blunder has seen SABC1 repeat the exact same episode of soapThe Bold and the Beautiful in primetime over and over this week, with no explanation to viewers.

SABC1 made no press statement to the media and gave no reason as to why it happened that the same episode of Bold was shown on three consecutive nights.

Thursday evening SABC1 showed the first new episode of Bold as viewer outrage grew.

"How many times do we have to watch this same Bold and the Beautiful episode? Three times now?" asked irate viewer Faith Zungu.

"Someone is not doing their job, although we pay our TV licence regularly; which pays their salary!" said Rita Dawson-Basson.

No answer

"What's wrong with you SABC1? How many times must we watch this same episode of The Bold and the Beautiful?" asked Patience Nkomo. "Why do you repeat the same episode of Bold three times?" asked Meisie Pitse on SABC1's Facebook page.

No answers were provided.

SABC1 moved The Bold and the Beautiful in October 2011 from 18:00 to 18:30 but the experiment was such a huge failure and prompted such a large viewer outcry that SABC1 was forced to move The Bold and the Beautiful back to its original timeslot six months later.

After complaints, SABC1 enlisted members of the Bold cast to help explain in current on-air promos that the broadcaster is putting the show on at 18:00 again.

That's where your well earned TV license money goes to..!! What a shambolic mess, glad I never watch any of their channels.

Ah so you prefer the same repeats on DSTV? ;)

      Martin - 2012-05-04 10:16

pointblank is right, dstv is not much better, eg: i have seen top gear season 1-17 maybe 10 times, ultimate survival i can talk along with the bear, i have memorised the words to everything, time for new stuff dstv,

People actually noticed that a soapie episode didn't go anywhere after three days? Doesn't it normally take a year for something new to happen?

      Chris - 2012-05-04 10:29

What gave it away was the fact that Ridge stayed with the same woman for 3 consecutive episodes.

Told you the new CEO is an inept anc cadre implant. The name Lulama Mokhobo means totally incompetent in Pedi. What a bunch of useless wombats they could not arrange a fart in a baked bean factory

It must have been a "striking" episode?

  • Stirrer - 2012-05-04 10:06

On Friday night SABC2 did the same with "Noot vir Noot" - it repeated the previous week's show. Pathetic.

Bold and Beautiful still plays? WTF i thought it died years ago.

  • sharon.truebodyvice - 2012-05-04 10:15

Thats why we should not pay our licence

It's part of the SABC's million Rand upgrade... save money, don't buy new episodes!!! Seems legit!

  • mothakge - 2012-05-04 10:31

Then when you buy yourself a satellite dish for better viewing on Pay channels, this Lulama comes up with stories of these satellites being status symbols in the Rural Areas.....Political oppointments always have a political conotation to their speeches that they fail to use their brains and acknowledge their failures but tell the masses what was discussed over pillow talk............SABC is a rip-off with its licences......Its not money's worth!Even Lulama has a DSTV satellite dish in her home, perhaps because she has got the status she talk about!

i say unless the sabc can convince us that they are an independant body from the state and we have a choice to subscribe to them i think we should be allowed to not pay our tv licence ! -choose dstv or sabc or both but a choice is required have they been fined for anti competitve behaviour !! or taken to the consumer complaints commission ?

SABC repeats are still cheaper than dstv repeats though.
