SABC3 messes up Survivor again

Cape Town – SABC3 has spoilt Survivor and outraged viewers once again after playing an on-screen "spoiler" promo where the popular contestant Brett Clouser is already seen sitting in the tribal council jury.

The problem is that as far as viewers are concerned - and as SABC3 has shown in the latest episode with just two Mondays still to go – Brett Clouser is still supposedly very much in the show and not a tribal council member.

SABC3 therefore played the wrong future promo too soon and didn't notice the timing problem.

Viewers are outraged. This is the second time that SABC3 has botched Survivor - this time through incorrectly revealing the status of a contestant in the 19th season.

Loyal viewers

In September 2009 SABC3 messed up the order of the episodes for the Survivor China finale which led to massive viewer outrage.

Advertisers and the main sponsor demanded their money back and the final control worker was immediately sent home and later disciplined.

Besides the weekly rebroadcast, SABC3 had to rescreen the finale again in the right order and the issue was even addressed in South Africa's parliament where the massive mistake was lamented as indicative of the worrying state of the public broadcaster.

Now Survivor Samoa on SABC3 is somewhat spoilt for loyal viewers who have invested many hours of watching the show over the past few weeks which is set to broadcast its finale on April 30.

"Thanks a lot SABC3, your new Survivor advert shows contestant Brett Clouser in the jury already. That means we already know who is going to be voted out! You guys suck," wrote Kevin McLennan.

"Really really? Your Survivor finale ad is one week too early...Well done for spoiling 2 Survivor finales for us," wrote Gabi Milne.

"Thanks for ruining Survivor AGAIN," wrote Nicks Andrews.

SABC3 didn't respond to a media enquiry about Survivor made late on Sunday.

Amazing problems

Meanwhile, SABC3 will be following Survivor Samoa immediately with Survivor: Heroes vs Villains.

The public broadcaster is having issues with licensing the broadcasting rights of the next season of The Amazing Race in time to start on May 7 and decided to rather go with more Survivor immediately, without the usual break.

This will be the  first time ever that SABC3 will air Survivor seasons back to back since the channel acquired the show more than a decade ago.

Thank goodness I didn't see that spoiler, but now 24.com has gone and spoilt it for me. Thanks for nothing. All of the SABC channels suck and their line-up of programmes leaves a lot to be desired.

Since SABC is now the mouthpiece of EVERY ANC move - last night on SABC3 news the 1st 15 mins was about FOUR ANC events, one after the other...including propaganda about Minister Sisulu at an ANC PARTY meeting in the W.Cape - trying to get back in there where they have lost out to the DA. It was amusing to see that many of the senior people did not pitch up, and the hall was also half empty......SURVIVORS?.....Nah!

  • Gareth - 2012-04-23 07:56

Survivor is already on season 24 and the amazing race is on season 20,sabc is so far behind

  • Jill - 2012-04-23 07:58

What is all the fuss about ?!... at least they didn't reveal the winner (whose name is readily available on the internet for those who are able to access it). If you do watch this show then just watch the Finale for all the bitchings and ravings and stop worrying about the fact that the wrong promo was shown.

      elmathapo - 2012-04-23 08:35

I don't know what the rage is all about. We already know who the winner of survivor samoa is. Lame!!

  • Faizie - 2012-04-23 08:01

If you lives are determined by reality TV then it must suck

      Massey - 2012-04-23 09:21

I Agree 100%!! Anyway, isn't that kind of mistakes expected from such a corrupt and incopetent station?? who is anyway years behind on the meterial they broadcast.

  • Dave - 2012-04-23 08:01

When was the last time that one looked at the TV guide for SABC TV. They cannot even put up a TV guide everyday. Most of the shows are missing as is today's. A bunch of A Holes if you ask me

  • Claudia - 2012-04-23 08:24

As I cannot afford DSTV I am stuck with SABC channels...sorry should have said was stuck. I no longer watch TV...local is not lekker in this case.

      Roy - 2012-04-23 08:35

TV on the whole sucks in this country including MNet/DSTV etc with all the repeats shown week after week and the very poor excuses these people use to cover their backsides. Would be a very good idea if everyone stood together and cancelled their subscriptions to MNet/DSTV and refused to pay SABC license and then see what happens.

  • Victoriatoms - 2012-04-23 08:27

so now you want to know why the downloads of shows like this are through the roof... thanks though for ruining it for every one... fyi all, full episodes are on Youtube if you don't feel like relying on the local broadcaster...

  • William - 2012-04-23 08:27

Pathetic, poor and stupid school boy error's!!! Our public broadcaster really is in a sad and pathetic state!!! Thank God I enjoy reading, as I don't have DSTV!!!

      elmathapo - 2012-04-23 08:30

      Errors

      Stille - 2012-04-23 09:13

      idiot

  • Lauden Kirk - 2012-04-23 08:32

What's interesting is the reason you pay a tv license and every 7 to 10 min there is advertising. Honestly it's a shame how we pay first world for third word service.

      elmathapo - 2012-04-23 08:38

The tariffs you pay for SABC tv license are very cheap

  • Frank - 2012-04-23 08:41

SABC - The Jack and Jill retard show.

  • Theo - 2012-04-23 08:45

What a bunch of absolute tools. I was fuming last night watching that trail.

  • rhodgkiss - 2012-04-23 08:53

      Gee thanx dude

  • jpstrauss - 2012-04-23 09:10

This is nothing compared to Huisgenoot blurting out the winner of the first survivor almost two months before the final episode.

  • Charmaine - 2012-04-23 09:42

News24 could you not have said SABC fluffed it again but not say who was voted out, now you have ruined it thanks :(

  • marisa.girardi1 - 2012-04-23 09:51

They not only showed Brett on the jury side, they showed the 3 finalists on the other side... *sighs in disgust with sabc3 for ruining Survivor, and in self-loathing after it being pointed out that I must have no life if I am disgusted with sabc3 for ruining Survivor*

  • Peter - 2012-04-23 09:53

    Typical of sabc

  • Brad.Kopping - 2012-04-23 09:58

Survivor is crap anyway. Watch something stimulating like Jersey Shore.

  • Francois Vd Heever - 2012-04-23 11:14

thats why i rather pay big bucks 4 dstv...

  • Ron - 2012-04-23 11:30

SABC is the most unprofessional TV station I have ever encountered anywhere in the world... including Zimbabwe... and their staff are just as useless when you try and complain!

  • kerrimg - 2012-04-23 12:40

weldone news24 also messing this up as people still read this

  • Rob - 2012-04-23 13:44

Get real guys! Judging from the comments most, if not all, of you are not SABC's target audience. So don't expect to be entertained or engaged by the propaganda and childish sit-coms spewed out by the channels.

  • Dieter - 2012-05-02 11:21
