SABC3 to broadcast Saftas live

Johannesburg - The 8th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) will be broadcast live on SABC3 this Saturday, 5 April and includes a red carpet highlights package. The broadcast will be aired from 19:30 – 22:00.

In the build up to the live awards ceremony, SABC3 viewers will be treated to a 30 minute insert from 19:30 – 20:00 on all the red carpet action: from fashion highs to fashion faux pas along with interviews with top television personalities and movie stars. The two-hour glitzy awards ceremony, taking place at Gallagher Estate, will then be broadcast live on SABC3.  

The Safta Awards will be hosted on Saturday evening by comedians Tumi Morake and Alan Committie while Top Billing presenter Bonang Matheba will bring you all the red carpet highlights.

The Safts Awards main objectives are to honour, celebrate and promote the creativity, quality and excellence of South African film and television talent, and encourage entrepreneurship and the development of new talent in the Industry. The winners will be presented with the Golden Horn, the official Safta Trophy.

68 nominations

SABC received no less than 68 nominations across the different genres for this year’s much anticipated awards. SABC3’s High Rollers received eight nominations including Best Actor in a TV Drama/Director of a TV Drama/Writing Team of a TV Drama. I am Woman also received two nominations for Best Talk Show and the Best Magazine Show. Around Iceland on Inspiration and The Ultimate Braai Master each received a nomination for Best Reality Show. Top Billing also received a Best Magazine Programme nomination while Expresso and Bitten was nominated for Best Variety show.
 
SABC3’s flagship daily soap, Isidingo (airs Monday – Friday at 19:30) has been nominated for the Best TV Soapie Award - the only category voted for by the public, Best Director of a TV Soap and Best Writing Team of a TV Soap.
