SNL spoofs fake interpreter from Mandela memorial

New York - Even Saturday Night Live has jumped on the fake-interpreter-bandwagon.

On Saturday night, the weekly variety show did a sketch around Barack Obama, who made a few headlines while he was at the Nelson Mandela memorial in Soweto last Tuesday, and in the background had Kenan Thompson playing the role of Thamsanqa Jantjie, the interpreter that was signing incoherently.

Thompson was waving his hands about, making ridiculous hand gestures while US President Barack Obama, played by Jay Pharoah, was reporting on the progress of the HealthCare government website.

Before that, the Obama character also referred to his selfie with the Danish Prime Minister and his handshaking with Raúl Castro, which cause some upheaval in the US, and was then interrupted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her own selfie, after mentioning the whole wiretapping scandal.
