Santam spoofs Nando's for spoofing Santam

Sam Brighton
Cape Town - Nando's vs Santam vs Nando's.

The fast food chain is famous for its brazen television adverts, but now Nando's is getting a taste of its own medicine.

Earlier in April Nando's released a spoof of insurance company Santam's latest television advert featuring actor Ben Kingsley.

Watch the original Santam advert here.

The Nando's advert pokes fun at this set-up and shows a local actor addressing the audience while the Nando's meals on the counter next to him obviously change.

Watch the Nando's spoof here.

On Tuesday Santam struck back with a new video, saying it is flattered by the "cribbed" advert, and now challenges the fast food chain to deliver a long order of Nando's menu items to the Johannesburg Children's Home by 16:00 on Thursday 26 April.

Watch Santam's spoof here.

It is not yet known if Nando's will accept the challenge.

    It's brilliant! Well done Santam!

      Marion - 2012-04-25 14:19

I heard that Nando's has already filled out the list and undertaken to do it for a year. Now Santam should respond with varsity education policies or something similar for the kids. Love it you guys. Keep it up. You will be brands to remember as having both a sense of humour and a heart.

Santam, short term insurance (home, motor) - Sanlam long term (investments, annuities). Not the same company.

      Nina - 2012-04-26 14:25

HAHA...then you will get Nando's making another Ad asking sanlam to sponsor all the kids university and school fees....opened a can of worms there Santam!

      llmapuma - 2012-04-24 16:27

nah, that would be tasteless from nandoss (excuse the pun). Nandos too could set up such educational sponsorships. they have just opened up branches in USA.

      Marion - 2012-04-25 14:21

As orphans these children are entitled to be exempt from school fees and have a good chance of getting bursaries. Would nice if Santam could give them something though. Maybe invest some money for them until they turn 18?

Very, very Nice! Way to go!

  • albert.scherman - 2012-04-24 17:10

I love this. Two companies, not even remotely in the same industry, both having a go at each other. No need for lawyers or court cases, just fun that causes no upset in any camp. BRAVO to Santam thus far for not making any attorney appointment, let's hope that Nando's go for the challenge.

  • Jenine - 2012-04-24 17:12

    Brilliant! Absolutely love it!

  • wredman2 - 2012-04-24 17:23

Fantastic, Weell done to both of them! Handled with humour, intelligence and finished off hopefully with a donation to a worthy cause! Advertising is boring , irritating and invariably pushing crappy useless products, but at least these two companies realise that their brand is more important tyhan their product.

  • John - 2012-04-24 17:23

Excellent! This should spice things up a bit! Nothing like a bit of competitive advertising.

  • rafiq.gori - 2012-04-24 17:27

Now this is better than all the dumb sitcoms on tv. This is entertainment! Can't wait for the next episode

  • Clifford - 2012-04-24 17:32

    Nando's.......where chicken tastes fowl

  • hellopat - 2012-04-24 17:39

Sanlam has just paid for a Nando's advert, and the food will be far cheaper than the advertising bill.
