Cape Town – According to insiders a second season of MasterChef South Africa is on the cards for pay-TV operator M-Net.
"Definitely going ahead," an insider familiar with the matter told Channel24.
MasterChef SA – despite controversy over the prize towards the end – held viewership wise, especially towards the end when viewership grew, prompting the decision for a second season of the reality show, according to sources.
Some MasterChef SA episodes, in terms of viewership, even outperformed Carte Blanche and Idols during some weeks earlier this year which are perennially the most watched shows on the channel.
According to sources, an official announcement should be made soon, after which another new call to enter for amateur chefs in South Africa would commence.
Plans for a MasterChef SA Celebrity Edition, which were mulled over in May, have reportedly been scrapped.
M-Net was asked on early Friday about talk of a looming second season for MasterChef South Africa. The pay-operator didn't immediately respond with comment.
