ShowMax gets 125 hours of new premium content!

Cape Town - ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has licensed a 125-hour package of its premium scripted content to ShowMax, Naspers’ recently-launched SVOD service in South Africa.

The deal will see an array of ITVS GE’s quality content launch on ShowMax in November, including: the brand new action adventure series Jekyll and Hyde, critically acclaimed drama Rectify; hit period drama Mr Selfridge, the new TV franchise Good Witch; epic event drama Texas Rising and popular crime franchise Vera.

“Our aim is to make our premium content available for viewers to watch whenever and wherever they like, so we are delighted that South African audiences will have the opportunity to enjoy some of our most popular recent dramas. Africa is one of the fastest growing markets for TV content and ShowMax is one of the major players in the region, so they are the ideal partner for our programming,” said Dan Gopal, executive vice president of EMEA Distribution.

Victor Eckard, Head of Content for ShowMax, added; “Our goal from the outset has been to establish ShowMax as the most comprehensive, high quality SVOD content collection in Africa.  We’re delighted to partner with ITVS GE to add these incredible programmes to the platform and look forward to a great working relationship.”

The deal follows new research recently released by Pact, which found that Africa was one of the fastest growing buyers of UK-produced TV programmes in the past year, with sales of TV programmes growing by 21%.
