Johannesburg – Family and friends of the much-loved Simba Mhere gathered at the Rhema Bible Church North in Randburg on Thursday to pay respects to the late TV presenter.
The memorial service, led by Top Billing presenter Ursula Chikane, celebrated the life of the remarkable young man that tragically died in a car crash on Saturday morning on his way to the airport to attend the J&B Met in Cape Town.
"We’re here to remember Simba and to celebrate his spirit," Ursula said as Mhere’s family looked on emotionally.
Ann Pretorius, family friend and co-founder of Joint Aid Management SA (JAM), remembered Simba as a real champion.
"He always wanted to be a champion and would do anything to win. In the end he was the champion he always wanted to be. He was an extraordinary young man, remembered for his loud roar and gentle humility," Pretorius said.
In an emotional and tear-filled speech by Simba’s longtime friend, Russel Lang, Simba’s warm and friendly spirit was remembered.
"I say goodbye for now mighty lion, until we meet again," a very emotional Russel ended his speech.
Singer and actress, Moneoa Moshesh, broke down in tears as she sang a beautiful tribute to Simba.
