Simon Cowell demands more auditions

London - Simon Cowell has demanded further Britain's Got Talent auditions take place.

The 51-year-old music mogul - who is executive producer of the ITV1 show, despite quitting his place on the judging panel to launch the US version of The X Factor later this year - is reportedly unhappy with the calibre of the talent the series has unearthed, and has ordered the trio of judges to continue their search.

While the next series of Britain's Got Talent is scheduled to start next month, Simon's shake-up, which is hoped to make the show another ratings smash for ITV, could turn the programme "on its head".

An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "Cowell's announcement is going to turn the show on its head."

The judging panel - Amanda Holden, Michael McIntyre and David Hasslehoff - have already selected their favourite contestants for the live semi-final stage of the competition, which Simon is also expected to judge.

However, the TV boss is keen for them to cast their nets even further and trawl through thousands of online auditions on YouTube in the hope of discovering a hidden talent, after a whole host of stars - including teen singing sensation Justin Bieber - have been catapulted to fame via the video sharing website.

The source added: "Simon thinks this will be an exciting new dimension for the younger generation."
