Steve Hofmeyr says 'Bring it on!' to roast

Cape Town – In a cheeky promo for the Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr, the infamous Afrikaans singer puts a spin on his Blou Bul hit while being soaped down by sexy "servant girls".

The 65-second promo, which has been airing on Comedy Central (DStv channel 122), starts with Hofmeyr asking, "So Comedy Central is gonna roast me? Steve Hofmeyr?" This is followed by "What can they possibly say that I haven't heard before?"

Hofmeyr, the first South African personality to get a Comedy Central Roast in the style of David Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen, seems ready for the roast and says to "BRING IT ON!"

The controversial and outspoken artist, who has been through messy sex scandals and public spats, and is a poster boy for trouble, will be roasted by his peers in front of a live audience on Comedy Central - in a format similar to the mocking celebrity roasts in the US.

Comedian Trevor Noah will serve as the host of the live roast.

Roasters

Comedy Central Africa earlier revealed Casper de Vries, Kuli Roberts and John Vlismas as the first three members of the roasting panel to skewer Hofmeyr.

These three celebs are just the first of eight who will be tasked with telling jokes and throwing insults at the controversial musician.

The roast master, as well as the remaining five roasters, will be announced at a later stage.

The roasters were thrilled at the prospect of forming part of the first panel of roasters in Africa.

"I'm very excited! I've got my marinade, I’ve got my recipe: all we need now is the Roast," said veteran comedian De Vries.

Funnyman Vlismas was also elated at the thought of roasting Hofmeyr.

"Dear Mr Hofmeyr, as a professional humorist, it is with baited breath and huge gratitude that I accepted the invitation to heap scorn and humiliation upon you at the below mentioned appointment.

"I know you feel that I am not that funny, well, I suppose we all have an opinion. I have chosen to save mine for the Lyric Theatre stage," wrote Vlismas.

The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr is scheduled to take place on 11 September in Johannesburg in front of a live audience and will be broadcast on Comedy Central on Monday 24 September.

Tickets cost R350 and are reportedly selling fast. Tickets can be booked through Computicket.
