Strictly Come Dancing winners crowned

Johannesburg - After ten gruelling weeks of pain, tears, heartache, joy and smiles, Zakeeya Patel and Ryan Hammond came up tops in an epic photo-finish finale against Lalla Hirayama and Grant Estherhuizen to win the sixth season of Strictly Come Dancing on SABC3.

Winning over viewer's hearts - and their SMS votes - with their easy and fun performances throughout the competition, up-and-coming actress Zakeeya and pro dancer Ryan walked away with the trophy, the title, the cash prize (R25 000 to both dancers) and bragging rights over fellow finale contenders Lalla & Grant and Thapelo Mokoena & Hayley Bennet.

Dancing their favourite routines, sexy Lalla and Grant sizzled and thoroughly impressed as the first act of the night; Thapelo and Hayley showed loads of improvement with their quick step while Zakeeya and Ryan surprised no-one by wowing the judges and looking like champions.

So impressed were the judges they twice awarded the eventual winners a full house score.

Claimed its casualties

The marathon two-hour finale claimed its first casualties when Thapelo and Hayley were eliminated following the freestyle dances as they received the lowest number of viewership votes.

Finding themselves in a life and death duel for the ultimate prize with the judges and viewers watching closely and itching to cast their votes, Zakeeya and Ryan lit up the ball room floor with some of the most incredible moves ever witnessed on Strictly Come Dancing.

Lalla and Grant will not feel too hard done by, while they thoroughly deserved their place in the final, they were no match for the outstanding duo of Zakeeya and Ryan on the night.

Zakeeya, a 25-year-old actress who stars in SABC3's High Rollers and played Riaad Moosa's young sister in the movie Material, now joins Rob van Vuuren, HHP, Zuraida Jardine and Emmanuel Castis as celebrity winners of Strictly Come Dancing.
