Cape Town – Super Bowl XLVIII will be live – and for the first time it will be seen in high definition (HD) in South Africa on Monday morning.
This year will be the first time that the annual American football event will be broadcast live on Monday morning on a SuperSport channel on MultiChoice's DStv in high definition.
It comes after ESPN dumped their two TV channels towards the latter part of 2013 after deciding they don’t want to show their American sports channels in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa anymore.
The ESPN channel wasn’t broadcast in high definition, and SuperSport and MultiChoice took over most of the American sports programming from the now non-existent ESPN.
That means that the Super Bowl XLVVIII will be shown in better quality for the first time, and on SuperSport for the first time since the annual Super Bowl started to be seen in South Africa since a few years ago.
Super Bowl XLVIII will be broadcast live and in HD on DStv on SS1HD (and SuperSport 1) on Monday morning 3 February from 01:00 in South Africa.
It means an enhanced and a much better looking broadcast for South African viewers of this crown jewel of American sport.
The Super Bowl XLVIII will feature the Seahawks and the Denver Broncos (quaterbacked by Peyton Manning) and will broadcast from what is expected to be a cold and snowy MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
