Johannesburg – Aprons ready, timer set and mystery box packed! It’s time for the third season of the hit cooking competition MasterChef South Africa.
After receiving an International Emmy nomination for the first season of MasterChef South Africa, the latest edition is poised to set the highest standard so far.
Fans of the show can tune in for the first episode on Thursday 21 August on M-Net (101) at 19:30.
Here’s what you need to know about the new season.
The show:
MasterChef South Africa Season 3 will showcase unique, seasonal and original ingredients, amazing new destinations and incredible professional guest chefs – both from within our own shores as well as international cooking legends. We’re talking Michelin stars and mouth-watering creations galore.
The winner and runner-up of this year’s competition will receive a host of wonderful prizes from the series sponsors: Robertson’s, Woolworths, Nederburg, VW and Tsogo Sun.
But first the hopeful contestants have to cook their way through the notoriously grueling Boot Camp phase of the competition in order to secure themselves a spot in the MasterChef kitchen on the beautiful Nederburg wine estate in Paarl.
The judges:
The judging panel has been refreshed by the addition of award-winning chef Reuben Riffel who joins Benny Masekwameng and Pete Goffe-Wood.
The contestants:
Contestants this season impressed the judges from the very start with their high standard of cooking and advanced skills sets. These home cooks range from a 73-year-old grandmother to 21-year-old university graduates. The Top 36 candidates who were chosen from around the country to take part in Boot Camp come from various walks of life and a variety of professions – from a medical doctor to a train driver’s assistant.
