Johannesburg - Episode five sees The Great South African Bake Off tent bursting with originality and sweetness for Dessert Week.
For this week’s signature bake, judges Shirley Guy and Tjaart Walraven task the bakers to create baked cheesecake, a popular classic. The bakers demonstrate their creativity and inventiveness with interesting ingredients such as lavender, aniseed, rooibos and even cinnamon popcorn!
The technical challenge tests the bakers skills with a deceptively simple crème caramel dessert. Both a world favourite and a popular South African treat, this rich and golden dessert should have a silky, creamy finish. Delicious to eat but devilishly difficult to make.
If bakers thought the technical challenge was hard, the showstopper – choux pastry gateaux – really turns up the heat as some bakers struggle to master the French classic.
Who will claim star baker and who will be leaving the Bake Off tent this week?
