Winner of Huisgenoot's Saktyd revealed

Cape Town - Christiaan Boonzaier was on Tuesday announced as the winner of the KykNet reality show, Saktyd.

Christiaan and his finalist Astrid Lippert-Fisher were flown to Sun City over the weekend, where the winner was announced during the afternoon concert at the Huisgenoot Skouspel.

Christiaan, a 26-year-old proofreader and copywriter from Cape Town, was crowned the winner on Saturday, whilst Astrid was the runner-up.

The reality show was shot in the Naspers buidling in Cape Town earlier this year and involved 13 aspiring journalists competing in 12 gruelling tasks for a one year contract at Huisgenoot.

Chance to prove himself

The final task involved the two contestants interviewing each other and compiling an article from the interview. They also had to sit down with a panel of top team members at Huisgenoot for an interview, including Izelle Venter, editor-in-chief of Huisgenoot, YOU and Drum.

Astrid told Channel24 she was glad that she took part in the reality show and that the show had a very unique concept, mixing the inner workings of a magazine with reality television.

Christiaan said that he believes the show has opened doors to many people who aspire to working in the media industry, and by landing a job at Huisgenoot, he has already set himself up for a fantastic career forward.

Izelle Venter said that Saktyd proved to them what exactly makes a journalist at Huisgenoot successful. "We are convinced that Christiaan is that somebody."

The show proved successful for DStv's Afrikaans channel KykNet as it ranked in the Top 10 most-watched shows each week, and had a large following on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook.

Christiaan said that he had been struggling to break into the media industry for four years, and was thankful that Huisgenoot would be giving him the chance to prove himself.

"I am ready for the challenges that lie ahead of me. I am extremely excited!"
