Youngest Idols hopeful Shekhinah is out

2012-09-05 07:25
Johannesburg - 17-year-old Shekhinah Donnell has been eliminated from the eighth season of Idols SA.

This year's youngest contestant was revealed as the singer with the least amount of votes from the last round of performances.

The Top 6 contestants were divided into three groups during Tuesday's elimination show where Shekhinah and Monde were grouped together.

After the results were read, Shekhinah performed Lady Gaga's Marry the Night in hope of winning the judges' save. Her efforts were unsuccessful.

Shekhinah has gone back to school to write her exams now that she is out of the competition.

The Top 5 - Melissa, Tshidi, Khaya, Simphiwe and Monde - will perform at the Mosaïek Teatro on Friday 7 September and the episode will air on Sunday 9 September.

Idols airs on M-Net and Mzansi Magic on Sundays at 17:30.

I think she performed better than Simphiwe.. The guy slaughtered that Chris Brown song n managed to get away with it..I also feel the judges could have used their vote to save her..nxa!! She is really talented.

they should have saved her... BIGGEST LOSS on Idols, her and Tshidi... The rest can go home

      susan.paul.330 - 2012-09-05 10:38

I think Shekinah performed better than Mellisa...

      francie.potgieter - 2012-09-05 12:32

They keeping their vote for in case Khaya gets voted out.

      anthea.lagrange - 2012-09-05 15:13

I thought exactly the same thing Cina, lets hope they don't have to regret their decision. Sorry Shekhinah, you were fantastic and your last performance made me cry. Best of luck for your career, chicken xxx

  • maria.mudau.12 - 2012-09-05 08:08

I was shocked with the results lastnight, she is really talented and seems like she will have future in music.

  • quentin.smit.127 - 2012-09-05 08:12

I think the judges are keeping their 'save' for when Khaya gets his turn to be 'kicked' off in an attempt to make it seem like it wasn't rigged that he will win..

      tebza.ngoatoana - 2012-09-05 08:32

If I'm not mistaken I think the judges are no longer permitted to use their 'SAVE' vote in the top 5..but I stand to be corrected..

      khanyi.dani - 2012-09-05 10:39

No Tebza, the "save" expires when they reach the to 4.

      gavisto - 2012-09-05 13:27

Tebza u ryt bt I guess smit is too racist to see that, let's be honest here, its not about race bt most of the white contestants were terrible singers and khaya is jst talented, and still white people don't vote bt are very quick to complain..cumon guys

  • pieter.joubert.9 - 2012-09-05 08:13

OH NO! I love her. She has a personality and a good voice, unlike most of the others....like that church choir boy.

  • shaakieras1 - 2012-09-05 08:37

so sad...even though she has a massive career ahead of her its not about that - its about now - i would love to know who the charges are hoarding their save for tsidi? she wont probably ever need it...khaya - never - so honestly you telling me monde is more deserving - they got it wrong this time SA for some reason got it wrong this time - she threw it down - they shudve saved her - then starting next week the real battle begins . so now who do i watch?????

  • pieter.joubert.9 - 2012-09-05 08:39

To all the racist white people on here: Get lost. This year's contestants are the best group of people ever on the show. And, if you "don't know how this show is still on TV" and "do people still watch this cr@p", why are you taking time out of your precious and important lives to comment? You didn't get some this morning?

      grant.logan.94 - 2012-09-05 09:09

I do believe that some people vote based on colour. How else did last year's winner Dave win.

      mike.dufham.7 - 2012-09-05 12:57

@bobjaanPete. What hole did you spring out of?

  • suprise.figureitout - 2012-09-05 08:57

    she definitely out performed MOnde

  • lynne.wilken - 2012-09-05 09:24

Simphiwe should have been voted out based on Sunday nights performance! And why didnt the judges use their "save" to keep her in the competition-she is so talented and deserved to be given another chance!

  • fran.aphane - 2012-09-05 09:24

I think is difficult for the fans, judges alike to clap for Sheky as she has that Mercy Gray kind of voice that our local audience don't know how to react to her music. Is difficult to listen to someone with that kind of voice that is not Mariah Carey like where high notes can be hear. I guess we are a loud country and we like our music to be as such. I think she did we for her personal well being and I think she will get a contract with some company in the future. Good luck to her.

  • legosho - 2012-09-05 09:27

EIX, AM VERY MUCH DISSAPOINTED BY THE ELIMINATION OF HER, THE JACK OF ALL KINDS OF MUSIC

  • disebo.tladi - 2012-09-05 09:41

It was really sad to see her go,even my six years old daugther cried when she was eliminated, but then again she is still young and has a music cereer ahead of her and needs her education to fall back on.Randel likes her chances are he will sign her later on. She and Khaya really kept me and my family glued to our screen. I hope Khaya wins, I'm voting for him!

  • nolukhanyostella.mbingeleli - 2012-09-05 09:52

what a way to say goodbye! Girl u rock!!!

  • elizadorcas.deu - 2012-09-05 09:53

    \sad?\ as if they vote

  • thembisa.ombinda - 2012-09-05 10:00

It was truly sad to see Shekinah go but lets be honest, on what was required on sunday night (show stopper theme - dance with a crew)it was clear she or Tshidi would go. The truth is an Idol is a "brand", they should look the part and be able to dance & entertain. This is not 'gospel' idols show, its 'pop' idols, I am thus not sure why Unathi was so proud of the 'dignified' way in which Tshidi conducted herself? Pop music, sex sells (ask Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyonce etc) If Tshidi does not pick it up soon, she is going next. Melissa got 10/10 on Sunday's performance.

  • sanele.s.sibiya - 2012-09-05 10:30

so sad. and i have been voting for her since the beginning

      kurtlee.pillay - 2012-09-05 20:28

      Same here

  • bmaestro - 2012-09-05 11:25

great voice, cute face and with age still very much on her side, come next time she will reach the final or win this thing.

  • KwaneleMagwaca - 2012-09-05 11:30

I still can't believe the judges didn't save her,my heart is so sore:( I bet they'll still use their save and bring her back next week, that time she'll be finished with her prelims.

      kurtlee.pillay - 2012-09-05 20:25

You might be on to something there Kwanele!!

  • becky.jamieson1 - 2012-09-05 11:44

WHAT HAPPENED???? I LOVE THIS CHICK!!! She has an amazing voice and is MUCH better then a few of those idols.... Well Done love! You are amazing! Now I have to stick with my other favorite Tshidi!

  • francie.potgieter - 2012-09-05 12:31

Why is everybody still voting they the judges already know who is going to win. Khaya hand picked. Sorry Shekhinah you were my favorite even if I didn't watch Idols anymore, because I think it is so ricked this year.

      phemelo.ramong.1 - 2012-09-05 15:13

I totally agree with you Cina! I think we are at least owed an explanation as to why the save was not used. Chloe, for example, deserved the save, but no, the judges did not use it. They are "eliminating the competition" by ensuring that they keep their save for Khaya, at the expense of other talented contestants. I stopped voting on Idols the season that they cocked up the results and announced Sasha Lee as a winner whereas Jason was the winner (I had been voting for him)...no credibility in this show AT ALL...as much as racism has been "blamed" for past Idols outcomes, now that there are no more white contestants, there is a new form of "apartheid" and discrimination...

  • helen.barnes.319 - 2012-09-05 13:23

It will be great if Tshidi, Khaya, Simphiwe or Monde become the 1st Black SA Idol. They have great talent .......

      raymond.romans.5 - 2012-09-05 15:08

Why must the idol be black? What are you on about?

  • goodguy.buthelezi - 2012-09-05 15:57

Even if she was saved, she wasnt going to win Idols anyways! Rather than wasting her time and give her fals hope, the judges did a fantastic job by letting her go soomer now! Final: Khaya VS Tsidi finish n klaar

  • nelirejoice.maphalala - 2012-09-05 19:37

Shekhinah is young but very talented. She has great personality too. She can come back next year and continue where she ended. I just feel she was released because of the trial exams that are taking place this week.

  • mariska.stephens - 2012-09-06 01:07

Shekhinah was one of my favourites from very early on. And I was really disappointed that she was voted out. But I guess the fact that she got voted out, shows that she's unlikely to be the eventual winner. And bearing that in mind, I think the judges made the right decision not to save her. At least she can now finish her matric.

  • thonzee.zyzo - 2012-09-06 14:46

Hopefully next time my angle.don't loose hope.
