A final tribute to Rhythm City actor Dumi Masilela

Cape Town – After extensive consultation with the Masilela family, the producers of Rhythm City have decided to incorporate Dumi Masilela’s tragic death on 2 August into the exit storyline of his character, Sifiso to highlight the scourge of violence that is sadly so prevalent in South Africa.

Sifiso will be involved in a hijacking, resulting in his death. The viewers won’t see the hijacking, but it will be reported by Shakes. Dumi’s last day onscreen will be Wednesday 11 October.

As a special tribute, there will also be an on-screen memorial service on Wednesday 18 October. The episode also features Dumi’s real life MotherSabatha Magdeline Masilela and brother Thabani Masilela attending the memorial.

“The show’s producers decided to use Sifiso’s exit story as a way to pay tribute to Dumi’s work as an actor and to highlight the tragedy of unnecessary violence that plagues our cities,” says Yula Quinn, Rhythm City series producer.
