Expats can now watch local TV shows anywhere in the world

Cape Town - For South Africans living abroad, being away from home no longer means being out of touch.

Launched in December 2015, ShowMax’s overseas service supplies kykNET content to 28 countries popular with South African expatriates.

Based on the success of this service, ShowMax has now expanded the content catalogue to include the best South African TV shows and movies from Mzansi Magic, M-Net, Vuzu, as well as kykNET.

Costing US$ 8.99 per month, this service has the added benefit of featuring many popular shows within 24 hours of them airing in South Africa.

Jeanne van Zyl, who heads up the expat service for ShowMax said: “Shows like Our Perfect Wedding, The Wild, Isibaya, Binnelanders and Suidooster are as uniquely South African as bunny chow and biltong. Our plan is simple – put all the best South African shows in one spot and give expats a taste of home wherever they’ve ended up. In total, we’ve got around 14 000 TV show episodes and movies.”

The ShowMax service featuring South African content is available in the following 28 countries popular with expats:

Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and United States.

To access ShowMax while in any of these countries, visit www.showmax.com and sign up for a risk-free seven-day trial.

“The challenge for South Africans abroad isn’t so much about fitting in; we’re a confident and resilient bunch who thrive almost anywhere. Where expats, especially those with kids, can struggle is keeping the language and cultural link to home. This is where ShowMax comes in,” said van Zyl.

ShowMax has apps for smart TVs, Apple TV (4th generation), smartphones, tablets, and most web browsers. ShowMax is compatible with both AirPlay and Chromecast.

An added feature of ShowMax is the ability to download up to 25 TV shows and movies to smartphones and tablets for watching while offline. This is perfect for long journeys or keeping entertained when there’s no WiFi available.
