Idols SA contestant loses court bid to get back into the competition

Cape Town – Idols SA season 12 is in full swing.

The Top 10 contestants were announced during a live show held at the Pretoria State Theatre on Sunday.

But the question on most viewers lips was: Where is Siyakha Tshayela?

The 23 year old full-time musician from Vosloorus became a firm favourite of Somizi and viewers when she sang Beyonce's Irreplaceable in the solo round.

This managed to get her into the Top 16 where she continued to wow the crowd with her performance.

On Thursday evening, Idols announced that Siyakha was withdrawn from the competition after it was brought to light that she was involved in a dispute with an independent record label. (Read more here.)

The singer then lodged an urgent application in the South Gauteng High Court on Friday in which she sought her immediate reinstatement and a withdrawal of a letter from Idols SA that announced her termination from the show. (Read more here).

On Saturday evening the High Court ruled that Idols and M-Net were entitled to exclude Siyakha from the “Top 16” round of Idols.

Because her court application failed, she will not be able to continue as a contestant, said Idols in a press statement.

Judge Ismail ruled that Ms. Tshayela had made a misrepresentation in the agreement she signed with Idols, and this entitled Idols to end her participation.
