Johannesburg - Only six of South Africa’s most passionate amateur bakers remain in the Bake Off tent this week.
The stakes are high for Pie Week with two bakers set to leave the contest.
Pie Week brings hidden delights and concealed tensions as judges Shirley Guy and Tjaart Walraven set a classic for the signature bake – Wellington pie. Exotic titles range from Gemsbok Wellington with blueberry relish and wild mushroom pâté to trout and salmon Wellingtons, and lamb loin Wellington with mint pesto.
The technical challenge sees bakers faced with creating a perfect Dutch cherry pie, or Limbursche Vlaai.
The showstopper challenge is the bakers’ last chance to shine. Tasked to create 36 children’s party pies, the range is vast with tuna fish pies, peanut butter and jelly and chocolate ‘pop’ pies to name a few.
In the end, two bakers must leave the Bake Off tent. Pie Week should not be missed!
