SA's first superhero to make his TV debut soon

Cape Town – South Africa's first black, live-action TV superhero will make his debut next week when Jongo with actor Pacou Mutombo starts its 8-episode run on television.

Jongo, produced by Motion Story with hip-hip dancer and actor Pacou Mutombo in the title role, will start next week, 15 February on BET (DStv 129) at 21:05 and in two months' time on e.tv on 19 April at 20:30 for free-to-air viewers. The show is distributed internationally by FCCE.

Pacou Mutombo plays Eli King who transforms and acquires super powers after he comes in contact with a mysterious alien crystal found at a cave at the Cradle of Humankind, the same place where the Homo Naledi fossils were found.

After finding super powers, Eli sets out to find the killers responsible for his murdered mining father's death. Soon he comes up against the perpetrators who have a red crystal of their own and who wants his blue alien stone, together with a green one, to fulfill an ancient and devastating prophecy.

"It's an enormous honour to be chosen for the title role in Africa's first-ever superhero TV show," says Mutombo.

Other actors in Jongo include Luthuli Dlamini, Katlego Baaitse and Pauline Zwane. Jongo is executive produced by Chris and Colleen Lawrance with directors Gareth Crocker and Fred Wolmarans.
