New doccie takes a look at Huisgenoot's 100 year history

Johannesburg - After 100 years South Africa’s favourite magazine gets the chance to tell its own story, only on VIA (DStv channel 147). Die storie agter die Huisgenoot-storie is an insightful documentary about our country’s most popular magazine.

The documentary is a journey that charts the origins of Huisgenoot and viewers can share in the lead stories and famous people that shaped it into becoming a household institution.

Yet it is also an opportunity to peek behind the scenes, into the notebooks and between the keyboards of the Huisgenoot of today to see what it really takes to put such a successful magazine together.

Izelle Venter, channel head at VIA says: "It’s a privilege to show the inner-circle stories of Huisgenoot on VIA. It is a world phenomenon as far as magazine journalism is concerned. And all the intrigue behind the scenes and on the pages. . ."

Die storie agter die Huisgenoot-storie will allow both curious and fanatical readers to hear things about Huisgenoot they never knew. Most, for example, believe the magazine’s fame is triggered by a sensational nature, but editor Henriëtte Loubser believes this is not entirely true. “We aren’t actually a sensational magazine. We are an emotional magazine,” she says.

Find out why, after a century, South Africans still can’t get enough with Die storie agter die Huisgenoot-storie. It airs exclusively on VIA on 2 and 16 July at 16:00 and 19:00 as well as 10 and 24 Julie at 18:00.
