Johannesburg - Lifetime’s original movie, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, starring newcomer Lex Scott Davis as the seven-time Grammy Award-winning R&B icon, premieres Sunday, 27 March at 20.00 on DStv 131.
Toni Braxton executive produces the two-hour film, which is based on her popular memoir Unbreak My Heart.
The movie follows the singer’s journey from her discovery by mega producers L.A. Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, to her battle with Lupus. The movie also delves into how she made it through her public divorce all while navigating her son’s autism and family struggles.
Fans may not know, though, about the intense guilt Braxton once felt when she accepted her first recording deal that excluded her sisters. This decision haunted her for years and tainted the enormous fame she experienced. Despite her early accomplishments, Braxton's world also crumbled when she was forced to file for bankruptcy twice and was left alone to pick up the pieces.
Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart is more than the story of Braxton's difficult past though - it is a story of hope, healing, and triumph
The film also stars Debbi Morgan as Braxton’s mother Evelyn; Gavin Houston as Babyface, Cortney Scott Wright as Traci Braxton, Skye P. Marshall as Towanda Braxton, LaToya Franklyn as Trina Braxton and Tiffany Hines (Devious Maids) as Tamar Braxton.
