Cape Town – If you're a Game of Thrones fan you've probably gone into withdrawal mode and a slight panic.
Ten months is a very long time to wait for the series return. It never gets easy especially if the finale was as lit (no pun intended) as this one.
This season was jam packed with some of the best TV moments of the year, from the saddest death in Hold the Door, the return of the Hound, Melisandre revealing her true self, the Greyjoys reunion and the epic Battle of the Bastards.
Here are our 7 best moments of the season.
1. He's Alive
We all released a collective sigh of relief when Jon Snow was brought back from the dead by Melisandre and her witchcraft. The gods weren’t done with him yet and Jon kicked ass this season.
2. Khaleesi on Fire
Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen, First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons proved to be every one of her titles this season. Her most epic moment was when she walked through fire after burning down the temple of the Dosh Khaleen.
3. Hodor's death
There have been many deaths in Game of Thrones but this one ranks as one of the saddest. Through Bran's visions we learn about Hodor's past and his ultimate sacrifice to save Bran's life by holding the door.
4. A girl is Arya Stark
It's been quite a season for Arya, she was blind, she decided not to kill a woman she was tasked to which led to her being hunted and almost killed by the Waif. After killing the Waif Arya returns to the Hall of Faces and takes back her identity when she tells Jaqen, "A girl is Arya Stark of Winterfell, and I'm going home." And on the way home she served Walder Frey his children in a pie and then slit his throat.
5. Ramsey Bolton's death
This was the one death fans were looking forward to. Ramsey Bolton finally got his just deserts after he was defeated at the Battle of the Bastards. Sansa Stark setting his own dogs on him to maul him to death was perfection.
6. Queen Cersei
Cersei started out the season as a shamed woman and ended it as the Queen. She got her revenge on the High Sparrow and his cult by blowing up the Great Sept of Baelor with wildfire. House of Tyrell was wiped out and poor Tommen jumped to his death which lead to Cersei taking the Iron Throne.
7. Jon Snow's real parents revealed
This goes down as the best moment of the season. In Bran's final vision we return back to The Tower of Joy where young Ned Stark finds his sister Lyanna covered in blood. She asks Ned to promise her something and tells him that if he finds out he will kill him. Then there's a baby in Ned's arms and as the camera zooms into the baby's eyes it cuts to Jon Snow. Who is then crowned King of the North.
BONUS
We couldn’t round up the season without giving a shout out to the Queen of Thorns. From cutting Cersei down with her words to her new alliance with Dorne, she's the real OG!
