The cherry on top as SA Bake Off crowns its winner tonight

Johannesburg - Only three of the original bakers remain. They’ve made it to the final. Over 21 challenges, they’ve worked their way through every baking discipline Tjaart and Shirley have thrown at them – from cakes to bread, and from pastry to biscuits. They have all survived, and now they face the last three challenges.

For their signature bake the bakers are required to produce three types of savoury canapes, and the judges demand perfection. Creations range from wanton duck and salmon bento box, to rare roast beef shortbread and sweet potato scone canapes.

The technical challenge finds bakers tackling an old South African favourite – koeksisters. A deceptively simple bake, koeksisters can pose numerous problems of their own and indeed they do as bakers go all out to create a balance between that perfect crunchiness and just the right amount of syrup.

The showstopper brings the biggest challenge in the series so far – to create a beautiful two-tier wedding cake in just four hours! With friends and family gathered in a carnival picnic setting outside the Bake Off tent, our three finalists emerge for the big announcement.

Who will Shirley and Tjaart crown winner of The Great South African Bake Off? Will it be professional dancer, Michaela Tseun, property manager Teddy Zaki or admin manager Dot Dicks?

Here's what the finalists had to say:

Michaela: "It’s incredibly humbling to be in the final of the Great South African Bake Off. This journey has been amazing, and I've learnt so much. I never thought I'd make it past episode two, never mind all the way to the finals! I would never trade this experience for anything, and I've been blessed with lifelong friendships that I will cherish forever."

Teddy: “I am truly honoured and over the moon to be a finalist. Dot and Michaela, don’t forget your shades – I’m bringing the bling. This guy is going for gold!”

Dot: “My first thought when it sunk in that I was in the finals was "Aaaahh! I don't want to do this anymore!" but then I decided to put on my big girl panties and do what I had being doing for the past weeks – bake to the best of my ability.”
