Johannesburg - Set in the fast-paced world of South Africa’s born-frees, Is’thunzi is a new teen drama that seeks to unpack the complexities that teenagers face today.
Leading a group of girls who refer to themselves as “ninjas”, the drama unfolds when we meet the go-getter and sassy Winnie (Saints and Sinners’ Thuso Mbedu), who dreams of marrying a rich and famous rugby player. However, her dreams are dashed when she’s sent to live with her strict aunt in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal.
“We have told so many stories over the years, but had not fully explored the lives of Mzansi’s youth – Is’thunzi will do just that. This drama will dissect what it means to be young and full of potential, but also having to overcome financial, social and cultural barriers to make something of yourself,” says M-Net.
Follow Winnie and the other ninjas – Londi, Noxolo and Thishiwe – as they pursue their dreams and grow in ways they never could have imagined.
Catch Is’thunzi on Monday at 20:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).
