Johannesburg - The Great South African Bake Off’s semi-final episode sees the remaining four bakers go head-to-head for a place in the final.
Judges Shirley Guy and Tjaart Walraven set the bar high and expect only the best during this crucial episode.
The signature bake challenges the semi-finalists to create three different types of petit fours. The bakers’ imaginations run riot as they set about making almond and kirsch, coffee and walnut, lemon meringue and chocolate mousse petit fours amongst many others.
For the penultimate technical challenge, bakers dig deep into South African baking history to create the perfect, traditional milk tart. The requirements are strict – the judges are looking for a perfect flaky pastry base and a light and delicate custard.
The showstopper challenge calls for a whopping three different types of Danish pastry. Both sweet and savoury, the bakers deliver delights such as almond and apple, custard and peach, pecan nut, frangipane, chocolate and strawberry.
The semi-final becomes a see-saw scenario with the bakers changing through the rankings throughout the three challenges- top one moment, and at the soggy bottom end of things the next.
Which three bakers will make it through to the final?
