Partially based on actress, writer, director and producer Issa Rae’s breakout web series Awkward Black Girl, Insecure is a series about the experiences of being an awkward, twentysomething black woman in the US.

Best friends Issa and Molly must cope with the seemingly endless awkward experiences presented by life, including dating, sex and work. In the process they reveal the social experiences of black people.

The show has been critically lauded, with AV club saying that it’s “an exploration of black womanhood that pays tribute to past performances while elevating its possibilities to a level TV hasn’t seen before”.
