VOOV TV coming to Dstv

Johannesburg - VOOV is a social live streaming mobile application launched in South Africa in July of this year, which allows users the opportunity to live stream themselves to other VOOVers using the app. On 3 November, VOOV TV will launch on DStv channel 196.

This unique channel will start off broadcasting live streams of VOOV ambassadors, in 10-minute segments, from 17:00 - 20:00 every day.

DStv customers have the opportunity to interact with these celebrities as the featured VJ via the app and see their comments and virtual gifts appear on TV. Outside of these three hours, the channel will play a repeat loop of the live streams.

Launched in partnership with DStv, VOOV TV can be viewed on the Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and EasyView packages.

Over time, VOOV TV will evolve to allow ordinary South Africans to live stream themselves. This is a great platform to help aspiring stars find a voice and an audience; and for discovering the next big star.

The VOOV app is already a go-to platform for discovering new talent. VOOV has already featured streams from key personalities in South Africa and has started gaining momentum in the youth market, who are looking for the next wave of social media to connect and broadcast their lives on.

Aletta Alberts, General Manager for Content for MultiChoice, commented: “Since the launch of DStv, we’ve always been at the forefront of digital developments - we want to continue to bring our customers the latest in television trends. We’re on the cutting edge of broadcasting here - merging an app onto our DStv platform and allowing our customers to interact with the channel in real time is true reality television.”

“Our brand promise is to give South Africans a platform to showcase their talents. All you need is a smartphone and the VOOV app. We’ve ensured that the channel is available on all DStv packages so that every South African can enjoy unfiltered live streaming content and maybe take a shot at fame themselves when the next phase of the channel starts,” says Makhosazana Zwane-Siguqa, Head of VOOV South Africa.

VOOV is owned and operated by Tencent in China, which is part of the Naspers Group.
