Warner Bros addresses Riverdale actor's car crash

Cape Town – Riverdale actor K.J. Apa was involved in a car crash last week after a reportedly long working day.

According to The Hollywood Reporter the 20-year-old actor who plays Archie in the series fell asleep behind the wheel during the 45-minute drive home and crashed into a light pole.

He was treated on scene with no serious injuries. His car on the other hand was completely destroyed.

The publication further reports that a protest has broken out on the set of the Warner Bros Television production with sources saying that the cast and crew reportedly work long hours into the early morning on reshoots.

E! Online reports that Warner Bros has released a statement addressing the incident and the conditions on the set of Riverdale.

The studio says they are “grateful that K.J. Apa was uninjured during his recent accident."

“We have a large cast of series regulars, and our actors do not work every day. On the day of the accident, KJ worked 14.2 hours. The previous day he worked 2.5 hours, and the day before that he worked 7.7 hours. K.J. has repeatedly been informed about making production aware if he is tired or feels unsafe, and if so, either a ride or hotel room will be provided for him. The accident occurred last Thursday. Additionally, it is untrue that K.J. was taken to the hospital. He was treated by first responders on the scene and released by them. We also sent a doctor to his home later that same day for a follow-up to confirm his well-being," read the statement.

The statement went on to say that the safety and well-being of the cast and crew is important and that productions heed the Screen Actor Guild's mandated 12 hours from wrap time to next day call time for cast members is in accordance with industry standard policy.
