Cape Town – 22 weddings later the winning couple was announced on the season finale of The Wedding Bashers.
The top 5 weddings based on the celebrity judges scores were: Taryn and Franco with their trendy Maboneng wedding, DIYers from Potchefstroom Rianda and Dewald, Nicollete and Hermish from KZN, Zinhle and Sibonele with their traditional Zulu wedding and Carl and Tamara with their Ravos Rail wedding.
Johannesburg based Taryn and Franco with their Lebanese/Portuguese mash up at a trendy inner city rooftop venue won the best overall score from celebrity guests Cindy Nell, Siba Mtongana, Denise Zimba and Zavion Kotze.
The couple walked away with a prize package to the value of over R800 000. This includes R250 000 in cash from M-Net, as well as a seven night second honeymoon courtesy of The Moorings and Air Seychelles, R100 000 of jewellery from Jack Friedman, and R100 000 of cosmetics from Essence, Caribbean Tan, Lov and Catrice cosmetics.
Speaking about their win at a press conference, Franco said they were surprised that they won.
“All the weddings that were here was amazing – we are shocked that we won!”
As for that big cash prize the couple will be putting the bulk of it into the new house they are building and using it for their kids schooling.
The viewer’s choice
Viewers also had their say by rating their top wedding.
Kylé and Mark won the votes of South Africans with their intimate wedding in the sleepy fishing village of Paternoster.
The couple walked away with a five night second honeymoon on a group yacht from The Moorings and Air Seychelles, along with R50 000 worth of jewellery from Jack Friedman jewellers.
The overall experience
For the Bashers the entire season was an amazing experience travelling the country and attending such diverse weddings.
Speaking about the top 5 weddings Denise says: “One of the biggest reasons we loved their weddings so much is because there’s nothing like being in a room where love exudes on steroids.”
Cindy adds: “If you look at the weddings that made it to the top 5 they were true to who they are. They served the food they liked, had the music they enjoy, they had traditions that meant something to them. They weren’t trying to impress us or put on a show.”
