We've got a new Voice SA crush

Cape Town – Bobby Van Jaarsveld isn't the only guy steaming up the television screen on a Sunday evening.

The Voice SA contestant Austin Lurring is proving to be the total package. Not only is he a good singer, but also easy on the eyes.

It's no surprise that he has a big following on social media.

The 20-year-old who hails from Pietermaritzburg is currently studying music and performance at AFDA.

During his blind audition he blew the judges away with his rendition of Maroon 5's, Sunday Morning and chose to be on #TeamLira.

The battle round almost saw him exit the show when he went up against teammate Jeremy Olivier but coach Bobby offered him a lifeline.

His good luck didn’t end there as for his first live performance he sang Justin Bieber's Love Yourself, which won him the save from coach Bobby.

We had a chat with Austin to get to know him better.

Where did your passion for singing stem from?

When I first started listening to the likes of the legend Michael Jackson and Boyz II Men. I knew I also wanted to make music that has an influence.

Are you more Justin Bieber or Zayn Malik?

A little bit of both but more Zayn simply because of his sound. He is more hip-hop influenced like me.

What song do you like to sing in the shower?

It's usually one of my favourite songs. Right now it's Pillow Talk by Zayn.

What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re having a bad day?

To sit and just chill and talk to my closest mates, because then I can just forget about whatever is bothering me.

What has been your biggest challenge in the competition so far?

Being able to let go of all the nerves and stress and be myself when it comes time to step on the stage.

What would the name of your debut album be?

I would probably title it Timeless.

Tune in to The Voice SA Sundays at 17:00 on M-Net (Dstv 101).
