Why is Claire Foy leaving The Crown after season 2?

Cape Town – Claire Foy who plays Queen Elizabeth in Netflix's The Crown will end her reign in season 2.

She will hand over the crown to an older actress as the third season will jump several years.

The actress and her co-star Matt Smith who plays Prince Phillip will be recast.

Claire won a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her role in the series.

During the BFI & Radio Times Television Festival Claire opened up about leaving the show.

Speaking about leaving the role she said that they knew it was coming when they signed up.

“As an actor, there’s nothing worse than the sound of ‘seven years.’ I’m sure to some people it sounds amazing but to us it’s like, seven years of playing the same person? And this is a tough job, you know?," reports People

While she will miss being on the show she is excited to see how the series will play out.

Season 2 of The Crown will be available on Netflix in November with season 3 scheduled for 2018.
