Coming to Clifton: A sexy show at its shores

Beautiful girls having their deluxe dreams turned into reality - along with some boy trouble, wealthy surroundings and a good dose of drama. A new reality show called Clifton Shores is being filmed in South Africa's wealthiest and most exclusive enclaves.

Four American and three South African girls take part in the reality show (the producers call it an unscripted drama) following them as they work, play, love, fight and have fun across hotspots all over Cape Town. Clifton Shores doesn't have a broadcaster yet but will be showcased at the annual Mipcom TV market in France later this year.

"It's like MTV's Laguna Beach," says Cape Town publicist, Andrew Farr, "breezy, sensuous and set against the backdrop of one of the top five playground cities in the world."

Work hard, play hard

But the unscripted drama show isn't all fun and games. The show tracks the beauties who work for playboy Quinton van der Burgh's events and marketing company Quintessential. "They're working hard having to do fundraisers and all Quinton's personal parties. There's tension and drama and the cameras get it all," quips a source close to the production.

"There's also their personal lives and the guys they meet here and all the boyfriend drama."

"The girls all share a mansion," says a source. "It's a huge Clifton mansion. R30 million. Luxury hillside residence in an elite locale. Absolutely spectacular views."

Personal drama

"Clifton Shores basically follows these girls who are living the high life, help to organise and put on these events as they get to grips with the country, build relationships and live their daily lives in Clifton and beyond,'' says Genna Lewis, content producer of the show. "There's a lot of personal drama."

"Something that's challenging is that we're filming real people who are living real lives and within that we're following their personal and professional stories as they develop. The challenge production-wise is to keep on top of that and what's happening from day to day accurately in their lives and to be there for all the moments," says Genna Lewis.

Cape Town

"We're shooting all over Cape Town. We have a standing set at Caprice in Camps Bay. We've just been to Lion's Head and the Cape Town harbour and we'll be shooting on Table Mountain."

According to Lewis, there will also be plenty of adventurous activities like shark cage diving, paragliding, safaris and wineland excursions.

"Clifton Shores is a very real show and there's lots of surprises. The show is also a chance for the rest of the world to fall in love with South Africa. Locals are very keen to show off our many attractions to an international audience," says Lewis.

"Our goal with Clifton Shores is to promote Cape Town on a world stage and secure an international viewership," says Quinton van der Burgh.
