Johannesburg- Koyo Bala's unexpected death on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer has left a gaping hole in the lives of many people.
Koyo, who was also openly HIV positive, was first diagnosed with anal cancer in 2012.
The entire entertainment industry has been reeling in shock from the musician's death, whose fighting spirit and zest for life will be remembered by his friends. (Read more on that here)
One of Koyo's closest friends and the only remaining 3Sum band member, Amstel, has spoken out about the impact Koyo had on his life.
Speaking to Daily Sun Amstel described Koyo as a pillar of strength.
"Koyo was a true soldier. He was my pillar of strength and I'm grateful I could spend time with him during the past few weeks," Amstel told the paper.
Amstel, along with various other celebrities, got the chance to spend some quality time with Koyo at the recent Metro FM Awards.
Shortly after news of Koyo's death emerged, Amstel shared this sweet tribute to his bestie:
