Aya Mpama : 'I'm bringing my personality to OPW'

Johannesburg- Radio personality. Singer. And now Our Perfect Wedding host!

Ayanda Mpama was revealed as the new host of the reality TV show earlier this week after funny lady Tumi Morake confirmed that her contract had ended.

Aya, as she is popularly known, told The Juice that she has mixed emotions about her new adventure.

"I'm very excited and a little nervous, but it's good nerves," she said.

Aya added that she's not going to interfere with the format of the show- it's still going to be the OPW that everyone has grown to love, but she will be bringing her personality.

"Without changing or interfering with the show that people have come to love, I will add my personality, flavour and bring a different point of view to it," she explained.

Ever since OPW first aired it's been a winner among viewers, but it's also no secret that the hosts of the show haven't exactly been showered with the same kind of love. In fact, previous hosts Phumeza Mdabe and Tumi Morake have come under fire on more than one occasion.

The hosts themselves have spoken out about how hectic the travelling gets and have admitted that it sometimes left them with little or no time to focus on other aspects of their lives.

But this does not scare Aya at all.

"I must admit the criticism towards the previous hosts has been hectic. I'll be happy as long as the show continues trending and creating a hype amongst viewers. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I won't be taking people's opinions about me personally, because at the end of the day, it's all about the couples," she said.

And, as far as the travelling goes, Aya says she's embracing it all, and thinks of it as a way to get to see this beautiful country.

"I have an incredible support structure who help with my son when I'm away over weekends - the rest of the week I'm all his. With proper planning anything is achievable, and I get to see SA and go to a wedding every weekend- what fun," she added.
