Our national costume for this year's Miss World pageant has been received with mixed emotions from the public.
Miss SA, Rolene Strauss jets out of the country on 19 November, where she’ll represent the country on a world stage in December.
People took to Twitter yesterday after a snap of the national costume Rolene will be wearing was posted online. Even though Rolene herself looks incredible, people have lambasted the costume.
Some people have labelled it an embarrassment to the country, while others called it a joke. And, some tweeps went as far as saying that the costume didn't reflect the rainbow nation at all.
The costume, which has Madiba's face on the front is colourful with a traditional African influence to it. It was apparently designed by the Cape Town School of Fashion.
Even high-profile celebrities have voiced their opinions over the dress. Top Billing presenter Ursula Chikane tweeted this, "Fellow South Africans, we simply cannot allow that fashion faux pas to represent us. Who will #SaveMissSA from the #DreadfulDress?
Actress Florence Masebe said that Rolene is beautiful but the mess is not. "South Africa has amazing dress designers. The Miss SA people know this, right,?" she added.
