Basetsana humbled by the success of Our Perfect Wedding

On Sunday we bid farewell to Our Perfect Wedding. The popular Mzansi Magic show will be back for a fourth season, although the date has not been confirmed yet.

Speaking about the show, executive producer Basetsana Kumalo told the Sowetan: "To produce a show that is appealing and so well received by the South African audience is really humbling. It's great to know that you've hit the mark and you're on the pulse of what intrigues the South Africa viewer."

She added that she's proud to have created a format that has resonated across the broad as opposed to always having to import formats. "We have something we can be truly proud of and can export to the world."

Despite being a hit with viewers, the show has faced a lot of criticism. Some believe that it paints black weddings in a bad picture. Responding to the critics, Bassie told the paper: "This is a reality show, what you see is what you get. Some stories present themselves with quirkiness and some moments where you ask yourself, 'did that just happen?' and some people get married with no drama and that is the reality."

She continued: "Every couple sees their wedding as perfect, nobody says they want a disastrous wedding, and you may sit there and shake your head and disagree but to them it was a perfect wedding. I think it's gracious of them to open their special day and share it with us."

According to the paper, production for the fourth season has already begun with a new host, who is yet to be revealed.
