Black Mambazo: Keeping it in the (musical) family

When they were young Joseph Shabala used to test of all his songs on his four boys.

Before they were massive hits, the boys had heard the latest and greatest songs by Ladysmith Black Mambazo sung to them by the leader and founding member of the world famous group.

"I used to enjoy singing to my sons" Joseph told Drum magazine this week. "Little did I know it would open doors for them one day".

Fast forward a few years and Joseph has since retired from belting out his soulful tunes, giving the reins to his four sons Msizi,Thulani, Sibongiseni and Thamsanqa.

"As the second generation we're making sure the legacy lives on, even though our dad is no longer performing with us" Sibongiseni told Drum. "He may have taken a back seat but he's still very much involved with the group"

Long live Ladysmith Black Mambazo!
