Bakerman and celebrity chef, Valastro, is once again working his magic. This time he's helping to save failing bakeries on his show, Cake Boss, which debuted recently on TLC. We caught up with Buddy to speak about things sweet and savoury.
So, Bakerman, what’s the worst cake you’ve seen?
I’ve seen so many cakes good and bad that I don’t really have a worst cake that comes to mind.
Right then, what makes a good cake?
First off, it better taste good. You start with a solid recipe and use originality, creativity and skill to design the decoration.
Dealing with failed bakeries on the show, what is your single most important bit of advice for bakers starting out?
Practice, practice, practice. You will not get any technique perfect on the first try, so you have to practice until you can do it in your sleep. Not giving up is a huge part of this job, because sometimes it takes a while to get it right.
What is the most amount of money you've ever spent on making a cake?
That’s tricky, I actually don’t have a number off the top of my head.
Besides your own bakery, give us one hidden gem that you've discovered in the new show…
There’s not just one, all of the bakeries I've worked with are amazing! I definitely encourage everyone to visit and support these bakeries. You won’t be disappointed.
