DJ Black Coffee opens up about his childhood

DJ Black Coffee has opened up about growing up with an abusive father in an impoverished township and being disabled.

This follows the release of a 22 minute documentary, called Origins that was made about him, by electronic music website Resident Advisor.

The trailer of the doccie was released a few weeks ago. Black Coffee recalled how his mum and dad would always fight, and how after a huge fight one night, his mom started packing their stuff.

According to City Press Black Coffee explained how he finds it hard to reconcile his memories of his father quietly reading the newspaper with those of a man who became physically abusive after he had been drinking.

Black Coffee's upbringing was no fairy tale, but he says that the one thing that's kept him going is faith.
