DJ Cleo looks back at his struggles

Johannesburg - DJ Cleo has come a long way from being a broke student, who lived in a tiny flat in Joburg, and the legendary DJ took a minute recently to reflect on just how far he's come.

Taking to Instagram, Cleo posted a picture of a flat in Joubert Park, Johannesburg where he used to live.

"#StartedFromTheBottom 14yrs ago I lived here (JOHANNESBURG, Joubert park near the SPAR) after completing my 2nd yr. and i worked at Yfm at the time. - had no car (used taxis) - was not getting paid at the station (but worked hard and appreciated the opportunity) and used it as a stepping stone to greater things," he wrote.

Cleo reveals that at the time he was a producer for DJ Fresh, and Fresh would often have to give him money to help him survive.

"He would subsidise me, and give me rent money to make sure (the boy is happy and gives his best)," he wrote

"Later that year (2001) I bought my first car (TOYOTA conquest) and @djfreshsa would also assist with petrol money. - I remember one hot @misstancia also lived here at the time, and I hit on her hard but she refused to give it up.....mxim (it's ok, wa nkolota) ??," he said.

Cleo says his struggles taught him to not give up and seize every opportunity- something that has served him well in his life.

"Today life is good. Tough times don't last, tough people do.I am truly blessed" he wrote, adding "No matter how hard things can be for you, grab the opportunities you're presented with and use them well".
