DJ Cleo reflects on discovering Brickz

Johannesburg - It was a moment that would start one of the greatest music partnerships in SA music- the day that DJ Cleo met Brickz. And it all happened in a packed taxi!

Mkhulu, uh we mean, DJ Cleo took to Instagram this week to reflect on his journey in the music industry so far and let fans in on a bit of history: the moment he first met Brickz.

"In 2004 I had signed my first artist Pitch Black Afro and we released the album in March. In April we got a show in Maputaland in KZN and Ghetto ruff boss Lance insisted that we use the same combi to all go there. Little did I know that in the combi would be myself, PBA, Mapaputsi and his hypeman Halfbrick," the story begins.

"Myself and Halfbrick got along so well. Little did we know that we would later do business together and give the world great music - we left 7am and got back at 11pm and it was all we needed for me to know that "I wanna sign this boy'," Cleo remembers.

Cleo signed him later that year and changed his name to Brickz.

And that iconic Brickz album art?

"We did the album cover shoot in Newtown (all those flats were not there, they were still being built) that's where we got the bricks photos for the cd artwork," Cleo reflects.

And with both artists pushing for a comeback, the pair may just end up teaming up together again if recent rumours (which you can read about HERE) are to be believed.

Hopefully they won't have to share a taxi again on their way to the studio.
