DJ Zinhle opens up about her first week as a mom

Johannesburg- It's no secret that becoming a mom is a life changing event. And, even though it's exciting, it can also be nerve-wracking all at the same time.

Little more than a week ago AKA and DJ Zinhle welcomed their little princess Kairo into the world, and for the first time Zinhle has opened up about the experience so far.

Zinhle took to her blog MomentsbyDJZinhle.com where she revealed that naturally she's completely besotted with her baby girl, but as a new mommy is also scared because everything is new to her.

The proud mama started off her post by revealing the meaning of her baby's name. "Let me introduce you to My World …  her name is Kairo Owethu Forbes. Kairo is an Arabic name and is a variant of Cairo, meaning “Victorious One." Her father liked the name and decided to name her Kairo. My mother chose her second name Owethu. Owethu is a Zulu name meaning “Ours”. She is ‘Our Victorious One’," Zinhle wrote.

She went on to say that from the moment she laid eyes on Kairo, she felt a rush of love that's hard to describe.

"I could never have been prepared for the force of love that hit me when I first laid eyes on my baby girl. I remember the day clearly and it’s a memory I hope I never forget. Her first cry is still well embedded in my mind. When they put her on my chest, my heart was ready to explode. I was in love, I cared, I wanted to protect her, hold her and let her know that I would do everything I could to make sure she is the happiest girl in the world. "

Zinhle went onto add how now that they're back home she wants to learn as much as possible and figure out how to care for Kairo and settle her into their lives and routines.

Even though Zinhle knows that with babies things don't always go according to plan,  having some sort of plan or schedule in place helps her feel less overwhelmed.

Zinhle also revealed that AKA is quite a hands-on dad and while they were still in hospital insisted on changing nappies all by himself!  (Read the full post here)
